"Just a heads up.. It appears that we're about to enter a 'colder' period of weather in around 10 days time.
We have a little model agreement (finally) on colder zonality developing, this means low pressure with colder air from the north-west, further on in the period it may turn even colder and develop into north/north-easterlies but this is up in the air at the moment.
Whilst things are changing and improving for colder weather to develop this month we still have the pesky Azores high and unfortunate placements of high pressure (pretty stubborn and strong ones), we need a westwards shift, as these are 2 of the main reasons we're not seeing full blown cold spells of late.
One thing though...January isn't going to be all mild!
Attached images are from the GFS weather model and the ECMWF model for pretty much the same period.
As always I'll keep you updated."
"the weather for now at least feels seasonal with high pressure centred over or close to the UK with colder upper air associated leading to cooler day time temperatures and overnight frosts.
The settled weather will continue for most during the working week with little in the way of precipitation, however we do see a system working its way in from the west on Friday which will bring some wet weather, especially across northern and western parts of the United Kingdom.
Recent newspapers articles/media reports would have you believe that a very cold spell of weather is on the way...
Whilst the models are hinting at colder weather developing around the 14th of January onwards it does keep chopping and changing.
Truth be told we just cannot seem to get the 'correct' setup for true cold and snow (so far this winter).
Attached is an image from our GFS model showing high pressure and a colder pool of air to the east, just look at the rest of Europe in the freezer"
